#6 CHECKING YOUR BRAND-NEW LITTER: Check the baby rabbits daily, what to look for & make notes of: Observe that there are no dead kits in the back, down in their little sleeping burrow, and if there is, remove them. Check that each kit has a full tummy and seems healthy. If the litter is large, there may be one or two whose bellies are not as full as the others, however hopefully they will have had at least some milk, and you can make a note to re check in a day. Also a good time to clean the nesting box, keep clean to prevent sickness.
Improvements: bury the barrel up to 6 inches from top, fill the barrel halfway with dirt and straw. Create multiple short tunnels leading in and between the barrels then lightly fill each with dirt so that the does can dig around and feel like they are creating their own nests. Cover the tops of each barrel with a removable rabbit friendly flower bed so that it looks and feels like a real warren.
#8 WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN CHECKING KITS: After rabbits giving birth comes the feeding of the kits, and the doe will likely take excellent care of her babies. But just to be sure, you can check the bellies of the kits. If they have nursed, their little bellies will be round, even distended, just like Xena's opal rex kit pictured here.
