King George III (1738–1820) of England. The scene is set at Windsor Castle looking across to St George's Chapel. The king (the one who went mad and necessitated the Regency) is dressed in the formal robes of the Master of the Order of the Garter. The painting was completed in 1792 and hung in St Mary's Guildhall. It was intended to inspire support for the king at a time of revolution in neighboring France. Portrait by Thomas Phillips, 1821 - Sir Humphry Davy, 1st Baronet FRS MRIA FGS (1778 –1829) was a Cornish chemist & inventor. He is probably best remembered today for his discoveries of several alkali & alkaline earth metals, as well as contributions to the discoveries of the elemental nature of chlorine & iodine. In January 1819, Davy was awarded a baronetcy, this was, at the time, the highest honour ever conferred on a man of science in Britain.
