Gloucester Cathedral - cloisters

Shot on an early morning visit to Gloucester cathedral, UK. Anyone who lives within a reasonable distance and enjoys a bit of decadent architecture - I'd very much recommend a visit. Getting there early pays off, as you miss the floods of tourists, not that there's anything wrong with tourists, but it's nice to have the place to yourself for some desolate photos.

Tabernacle Polyptych with the Madonna and Child and Scenes from the Life of Christ | Northern France (?) | The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The reliefs of the wings of this polyptych follow a standard medieval iconography, but the quality and depth oftheir carving are exceptional. Polyptychs of this mode generally are dated to the first decade of the fourteenth century, but the style of the Virgin and Child here recalls earlier, late Romanesque prototypes
