OPERATION BANNER 50th ANNIVERSARY OP BANNER 50 years ago, on the 14th August 1969, British troops were deployed to Northern Ireland in response to the sectarian unrest and to support the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) and form the Ulster Defence Regiment (UDR). Jacqueline Hurley’s painting, ‘Poppies For Peace’ commemorates those who paid the ultimate sacrifice during The Troubles ~ whilst serving during the longest continuous campaign in British military history.
