The Man Who Changed Shanghai By Ladislav Kabos Shanghai architecture is framed by its French Concession, the Bund's neoclassical edifices, and Pudong, China's own interpretation of the future. Much of it draws reference from the architecture of Ladislav Hudec, a Slovak who arrived in Shanghai as a WW1 refugee. Or was he Hungarian? His three children, Martin (87) from Monaco, Theo (85) from Canada and Alessa (82) from the USA narrate Hudec's fascinating life.

Shanghai: The Normandie Apartment was named after the World War I warship Normandie and was designed by the famous Hungarian architect Ladislav Hudec. Over the years the apartments were home to many film stars. Sounds of footsteps running up the stairs, loud voices from empty rooms, and even the sounds of breaking glass are rumored to be heard from this apartment building.
