I was one of two Land Army girls, the other girl was called Winnie, both of us from Reading, that worked at Ascot Place during the Second World War, a lovely place to work in with a beautiful lake within its grounds.

1900 - Bicycle costume (divided skirt is a replica) - For the first time, women dared to show their legs in public. Not necessarily for sportive reasons, but more a symbolic step towards equal rights. Public reaction was in turmoil and women in trousers were in danger of being attacked. The „Wiener Mode“ recommended a simple street costume with a slightly shorter skirt, for bicycle riding.
