RUSTIC OUTHOUSE SIGN 1/2" THICK: This OUTHOUSE sign is a bit thinner than my custom signs and the face is not as smooth. The wood is actual cedar fence boards and a lot cheaper than the select pine, so I pass the savings on to my customers. I will not use this type of wood for custom signs, it does not have the durability of the select wood, but great for indoor decorating. The 3" letters are painted and the process is the same as the custom signs, just a bit thinner and rough. Build a box to the dimensions of the window – usually out of 2x6s. Use either old barn board or rough cut cedar planks for the underside which get screwed or nailed to the bottom of the box. The legs and mounting hardware can be purchased at Lowe’s or Home Depot in various sizes and styles. Paint the box and legs and attach the window to the box with 2-3 hinges and that’s it! I made this from cheap cedar fencing boards from Home Depot for $1.50 each. Then I beat them up a bit with tools and used a coat of a greeting stain to make them look old. The stencils were cut with my silhouette and then painted on. Super easy, fun and cheap!!
