"Anne d’Autriche", 1622-25, by Peter Paul Rubens (Flemish, 1577-1640). Anne of Austria (1601–1666) was Queen consort of France & Navarre, regent for her son, Louis XIV of France, & a Spanish Infanta by birth. During her regency (1643–1651) Cardinal Mazarin served as France's chief minister and, perhaps, more. Her coronation gown, which appears to be the same gown worn by her mother-in-law, Marie de Medici, in a 1609-10 portrait by Frans Pourbus the Younger.
