Joe Byrne's corpse strung up on a cell door at the Benalla lock-up for photographers: No attempt has been made to clean or neaten the appearance of the deceased and the body has been erected crudely with ropes to allow the photographers to capture images with less effort. This final indignity speaks volumes about the Victorian attitudes to death, crime and humanity.
