Sumerian Pazuzu. In both Assyria and Babylonia, he was the king of the demon gods. Worn as an amulet to protect against other demon gods esp. his rival, the goddess Lamashtu, who harmed mother and child during childbirth. Pazuzu is the god of the southwest wind who brings famine during the dry seasons, and locusts during rainy seasons. Depicted as part human-part animal often with a dogs or lions head, claw-like feet, two pairs of wings with his right hand raised and the left down. Louvre
