Horseshoe Bend is the name for a horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona, in the United States. It is located 5 miles (8.0 km) downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, about 4 miles (6.4 km) southwest of Page. #travel #arizona

America's Great Outdoors
Electricity is in the air at Glen Canyon! Although the Glen Canyon Dam produces hydroelectric power around the clock, an early morning thunderstorm really cranked up the voltage last month. Use caution when planning your upcoming outdoor activities as intense thunderstorms are common this time of year. Photo: David Bailey

Glen Canyon Dam Flood 1983
I visited the dam just before the peak flow. There were workmen nailing plywood on top of the dam with the water just ~8" below the top. The flood caused 40' cavitation pits in the spillways. Disregard the EXIF data for this photo. It belongs to my current camera digitizing the original slide. This was probably taken with an Olympus OM-2.
