Designer Martha Mulholland was particularly enthusiastic about the living room’s grand fireplace, whose original tiles were made by artist Ernest Batchelder, a leader of the Arts and Crafts movement. To match the tawny glaze of the tiles, she chose a rust-hued velvet fabric from Schumacher to cover the windows. A set of lounge chairs from the Art Deco era were paired with a 1950s-inspired sofa from Restoration Hardware. The small side table, inlaid with bone and tortoise shell, is an antique.
