Opps I did it again

You may have noticed that my blog posts have been a bit sporadic. We have been busy with fall projects, work and of course the usual hours of weekly garden chores. Life in the fall is usually a slower simple rhythm the days grow shorter the sun dips lower and thankfully the temperature has fallen a bit But then...."change" that crazy little devil knocked on my door and I knewI was really in for it About a month ago I got a call from a friend and neighbor who happens to be a realtor. She…

Spare Bedroom Reveal: The room that got painted twice

Yep, you read that right. I painted this room the week before Christmas. I bought the test pots of the colours I was considering, painted them on the walls in multiple spots and chose wisely. Right? Soo wrong! The colour I chose was Sherwin Williams First Star and it looked on the chip and test swatch like a light grey. It went on the walls, I did all the trim which had not yet been done in this room. I added all the stuff back in, fought with a DIY curtain rod from hell and holy crap the…

The Polished Pebble: Got Bait? Lamps from vintage minnow buckets

Got Bait? Lamps from vintage minnow buckets

Here is a new lamp I worked up for the extra room in our little condo. I use this room as an office and it has a hide-a-bed couch for visitors...which I rarely have had since we moved. Is there something I need to know? These are vintage Old Pal bait/minnow buckets. The graphics are wonderful and bright. There's that red color popping up again. Each bucket is different, but the same size and shape. For the shades, I used a vintage french dust skirt. The contrast detail at the top is original…

The Polished Pebble: Kelley Malcolm McDowell's Ojai Hacienda

Kelley & Malcolm McDowell's Ojai Hacienda

This wonderful home was featured in House Beautiful a few months ago and I have to say I thought it was a great renovation Kelley and her actor husband Malcolm McDowell live here (some of the time) with their three little boys. I see them around town a lot and the next time I see Kelley....If I have the guts...I want to tell her how much I love her Ojai home! It is a 1920s ranch house and somewhat small at 2800 square feet. I believe it was originally designed by architect Austin…

The Polished Pebble: day bed

The Polished Pebble

Here is our crazy and exciting attempt to capture a small slice of the country life just a few hours from work and not so far from the city that you can't find a home depot near by. Ojai is about 25 miles south of Santa Barbara and about 12 miles inland from Ventura and the beach. The population is about 8,000 and the valley is only about 12 miles from end to end. No malls or parking meters to be found. We chose to look for real estate in an area called the Arbolada. It is historic for the…
