This Day in History, September 8, 1900 - Deadly Hurricane Hits Galveston, Texas
On this day in 1900 Galveston, Texas was hit by one of the deadliest storms in US history. Estimates are from 6,000 to 12,000 deaths. At that time there were no reliable hurricane warnings and the devastation was widespread. This is a detail of a Griffith & Griffith stereo view in our collection.
