Statue of Athena Nike, the goddess of victory Louvre, Athena Nike One of my all time favorite Greek sculptures

Nike of Samothrace - A Nike is a goddess who personified triumph or victory. An artist would sculpt a Nike to celebrate winning a battle/war. Even though this particular Nike is missing her outstretched arms and head, she is one of the most famous sculptures from the Hellenistic Period of Ancient Greece.

The Louvre - It is the Winged Victory of Samothrace. It’s from the second century BCE, and it represents the Greek god of victory, Nike. It was made to commemorate a successful sea battle in Samothrace, and it actually did have a head once upon a time.
