The first of the William L. Harkness yachts was the 195 ft. Gunilda. While cruising Lake Superior, Harkness directed his crew to continue on without a local guide through the Schreiber channel, as he believed the fees were too high. The Gunilda ended up running aground hard on McGarvey shoal. Some blame his arrogance & others believe there were errors in US charts he entrusted to navigate the Canadian waters. The Gunilda hit a reef & sunk off of Copper Island near Rossport, Ontario in 1911 Lake Superior, Diving, Great Lakes Shipwrecks, Boat, Great Lakes, Kayak Adventures, Yacht, Diver

https://flic.kr/p/qZqmdE | St. Andrew's School | Description: Many older citizens will fondly remember St. Andrew’s Separate School on Red River Road. Designed by Charles W. Wheeler, the two-storey, eight-roomed building was erected in 1902 and served Port Arthur’s Catholic community for many decades. Its open bell turret and pyramidal roof make it appear larger than it was. When it was new, many considered the design unduly severe. Accession No.: 990.41.284 Design, Community, Charles, Andrew
