A small garden shed is a good way to try your hand installing cedar shingles. You will use the same installation techniques, although on a smaller scale. Cedar shingles will last for decades before they need replacing.

Built my shed in ’Posh Shed Company’-style with cedar roof shingels and painted it in Farrow and Ball’s ’Lichen’ colour.

Horizontal Cedar Slate Carport: I decided to updated the old carport and make it a bit more modern. I used the existing post/beams and stained them with a semi-transparent black stain. Next I refreshed the roof structure with fresh lumber and a cedar stain topped with smoked polycarbonate. Then to give it some modern character I milled down some reclaimed cedar siding to 2.5 inch slates and Brad nailed it to the posts. Working at it in my free time the entire project took a couple weeks.
