People pleasing is a coping skill we develop to deal with life. When we are young, we typically start out by pleasing our parents and if it works, we get positive reinforcement. As we grow up this coping skill then becomes full blown people pleasing. At this point it becomes a part of our personality so it’s even harder to shake. It’s “who we are”. If you can remember it’s a coping skill, it’s easier to work through. There’s nothing wrong with you, it’s just how you survived!
