I like to think of finishing the raw edges of a quilt – to be a little like adding the ribbon to a package wrapped with pretty paper – or the frame on a painting. One of my most suggested tips is to learn to pause and make partial motifs of whatever background freemotion design you are doing. Making elements like this seem to disappear under other elements is a subtle but advanced looking change you can make to your freemotion quilting.   Also, this trick would let me work larger scale too, as I don’t need to smoosh smaller and smaller elements into narrowing gaps.
