Celebrate National Pollinator Week with these surprisingly gorgeous portraits of bees.

Last spring Fiona Presly, a library assistant from Inverness, Scottish Highlands came across a surprising phenomenon she would never forget. While taking care of her garden she spotted a bumblebee queen crawling around. What surprised her the most was that the animal had no wings, as it turns out the bumblebee may have suffered from a virus which had caused problems in wing development.

This male has spent the night in the bee hotel and is just testing the air temperature before venturing out.

Bearding is a natural activity of bees during hot weather. Bee bearding can be alarming to beekeepers but it is actually a good sign.
