This week, 5th grade will start their Kimmy Cantrell inspired cardboard relief mask! I was inspired by the Plastiquem blog and the Handmakery blog. They introduced me to this artist and I wanted to share him with my 5th graders! Here's a link to more information about Kimmy Cantrell! The above masks were created by 3rd-5th graders. My 3rd-5th graders looked at the masks of artists Kimmy Cantrell and Eric "Straw" (Strawczynski). They come from completely different walks of life, yet have distinct parallels. Cantrell is an African American artist from Atlanta Georgia.
