By the age of 10, most children in the United States have been taught all 50 states that make up the country. But centuries ago, the land that is now the United States was a very different place. Over 20 million Native Americans dispersed across over 1,000 distinct tribes, bands, and ethnic groups populated the territory.

The National Museum of the American Indian (http://www.nmai.si.edu/ ) has created some excellent resources for teaching about Native Americans in schools. Their resources are well-researched and use Indigenous sources. Below are some pages that I think are especially useful. I also heartily recommend a look at the other resources they have available on their website. Native American Map, Native American Heritage Month, American Indians, American Symbols, American War, North American, Planer, Us Geography, Homeschool Geography
