Passive Heating Techniques - Free download as Powerpoint Presentation (.ppt / .pptx), PDF File (.pdf), Text File (.txt) or view presentation slides online. Passive solar design uses sunlight to heat buildings without mechanical devices. There are three main approaches: direct gain, indirect gain, and isolated gain. Direct gain involves south-facing windows and thermal mass to store heat. Indirect gain uses elements like Trombe walls between windows and living spaces to absorb and transfer…

Project: Three Trees Location: Eagle Rock, California Large rocks squeezed into together by 'wood shelves' insulate the South face of the house. The rocks absorb the heat during the day lowering the solar gain. At night the rocks give heat back into into the air as the temperature outside drops. The rock wall and the desert climate work in concert to passively cool the house. Jeremy Levine Design www.jeremylevine.com

This diagram shows how passive ventilation can be utilized differently depending on the season. when it's winter the warm air is trapped to provide insulation & in the summer the warm air is flushed. cool air is constantly flowing through. I think it is successful because of how the air movement ribbons are a gradient to accurately show warm + cool air. Having the summer & winter conditions next to each other is a successful use of showing the passive design during different times of the year.
