But things may be different if you visit a supermarket that has something unique, whether it is an interior element or a product they sell. For example, in Salt Lake City, there’s a shopping mall with a real mountain stream running through it. In Paris, there’s a shop that sells colorful toilet paper. And it’s presented on the shelves as if it were some kind of elite wallpaper.

The Lexicon is a mix of open and covered public streets, lined with contemporary #retail units and complemented by a vibrant selection of restaurants, cafés and bars fronting new public squares. Turning the traditional idea of the ‘shopping mall’ inside out, Commercial Bay presents a new model for the retail typology: an open-air, laneway-based retail environment configured over three levels. The project embodies a spirit of generosity, creating two entirely new pedestrian routes through the city block, connecting transit nodes, and enhancing the pedestrian experience of the city center. However over the past two decades, the Mall’s public domain had deteriorated due to the intensive levels of pedestrian traffic and incessant re-development of adjacent major retail stores and arcades.
