Mettlach's Movie Night

See all 18 baskets We brought the movies home this year with our school carnival basket (see last year's). Five of us put our heads together to come up with a family movie night theme. But it wasn't your typical movie night theme ... no, we went for big, grande, the biggest movie night of all... With an old fashioned popcorn cart {a steal I found on Black Friday at JC Penney!} and a chalkboard movie clapper, our "basket" included: 24 packages of popcorn and oil (Amazon) 5 containers of popcorn seasoning (Amazon) 30 boxes of candy (Walmart) Red stainless steel popcorn bowls (World Market) A book "101 Things to do with popcorn" (Pottery Barn?) Gift cards to 2 local movie theatres A Redbox gift card An iTunes gift card An economy size box of goldfish and A giant wire basket (Walmart) We avoided putting in actual movies because you don't know what people already have (plus, even the 5 of us couldn't agree on what movies to put in due to varying movie preferences), hence the gift cards. We printed out pictures of current movies and taped them inside the "sides" of the top of the cart to give it a "movie theatre" feel. Our baskets total: $370, all generously donated by classroom parents (remember the rules say it has to total at least $250). Jillian and I had so much fun putting it together - of course just a few nights before it was due. Thankfully, Justin put the cart together for us so that saved us a little time. We had to wrap everything up in cellophane to ensure no one took any of the items before it was raffled off. This year, the cellophane didn't get in the way, just added a nice little decorative touch - thanks to Jillian's awesome wrapping skills. The basket was stuffed with tissue paper to give it full-ness. We used a stick from the yard, wrapped with washi tape, to hold the gift cards in the back of the basket. All of the gift wrapping we had on hand, except the cellophane which we picked up at the Dollar Store. When we took it into the school (bottom right), kids were clamoring to get a good look. I'm hopeful we'll get a lot of tickets!
