I positively love Scotland, in large part because of its amazing islands. During previous trips to the Orkney Isles and the Isle of Skye I knew that there was one area I had yet to see - the Outer Hebrides. This trip provided the opportunity to explore both Lewis and Harris while simultaneously re-visiting the Isle of Skye. Luckily, the weather cooperated beautifully. I would love to hear which of these photos are your favorites. You can find the stories behind these photos at…

Kilnasaggart Pillar Stone, Co Armagh Standing at 2.8 metres high the Kilnasaggart pillar stone is probably the oldest dateable stone monument in Ireland. The Pillar stands in a small enclosure in the townland of Edenappa in County Armagh. The Pillar stands at the edge of a graveyard that was excavated in the later part of the sixties, these excavations revealed both stone built and dug graves. There are several small stones lying around the standing stone and some of these stones bear crosses. This is a 'Class I Pictish Symbol Stone', situated on the roadside at Aberlemno, Angus. The stone contains a double disc & z-rod, serpent, mirror and comb. It is believed that this stone was probably a much earlier megalith (due to cut marks present on the back and side), and had been re-used by the Picts. If this were to be the case it would not be unusual, as various other Pictish stones appear to have been re-used megaliths, such as the 'Brandsbutt Stone' in Inverurie.
