Vintage modernist jewelry

Here for your consideration is a nice abstract modernist 925 silver ring. It is approximately a size 9. The oval measures 1" tall. It is marked 925 Thailand and is tested as silver. It could use some detailed polishing but I have left as found. It is in good wearable vintage condition.

Art Smith, born in Cuba in 1917 to Jamaican parents in Cuba. His family settled in Brooklyn in 1920 and Smith showed artistic talent at an early age.

Art Smith designed cuff links for Duke Ellington and a brooch for Eleanor Roosevelt. His work was featured in Vogue and Harper's Bazaar (in the 1950's), and he moved in the same circles as James Baldwin, Harry Belafonte and Lena Horne. "His designs were interesting and modern. A vintage modernist sterling silver bracelet by Elis Kauppi for Kupittaan Kulta Oy, Turku Finland. A geometric design with rock crystals and spectrolite stones. Measures about 7" around. The central design measures 1 1/2" across and 2 1/2" long. Hook closure. In very nice condition with minor tarnish. Marked with the Anvil, Finland and 925S, the mark for Turku and Q7 for 1969. A fine, hand wrought modernist sterling silver choker necklace by the California studio jeweler, Gerald Stinn, (1937-2019). Made up of ten lightly hammered angled links with small connectors. You can have the links all facing the same way or alternate them for an interesting effect. Measures about 15 1/2" long and 1/2" wide. Probably better for a more slender neck, although an extender can be added. Hook closure holds securely. Marked Stinn Sterling. In very nice condition. Quality piece.
