How To Make A Movie Title Sequence
#FromTheArchives BBC film series from 1998! We shot the title sequence using the 'timeslice' inventor Tim McMillan's camera rig. 35mm film woven through a series of shutters set within a giant 180 degree steel section. Processed, digitally scanned, and stitched together in frame. Pre-Matrix and all the better for it! #timeslice #35mmfilm #bbcarchive
The Stuarts – TV graphics
ISODESIGN | The Stuarts – BBC Two | TV Titles | We created the titles and graphics for a three-part primetime BBC series about Britain’s defining Royal Family, The Stuarts. Working with the idea of Britain divided into three separate kingdoms, our title sequence features images that literally fracture and fall apart.
ISODESIGN | That Was the Week We Watched – BBC | TV Titles & in-programme graphics | TV listings from a single week capture the essence of an era with satirical narration by Simon Pegg. Our animations brought the week's RadioTimes and TVTimes magazines to life.
A History of Scotland — TV titles and maps
ISODESIGN | A History of Scotland – BBC One | TV Titles | Dramatic opening sequence for the BBC’s largest ever Scottish production. We treated specially-commissioned helicopter shots to a tilt and shift effect combined with generative typographic animation to symbolise the coming together of a national identity.
Banned in the UK was a @Channel4 & Blackwatch TV production series of documentaries concerning the history of censorship in Britain. Title sequence and programme graphics illustrated just what upset the moral majority over the last 30 years; from Video Nasties and Mad Cows to S&M, raves and BritArt. #Regram via @_iso_design
Upstarts – Title Sequence
ISODESIGN | Upstarts – Channel 4 | TV Titles | We designed the title sequence for Channel 4’s Upstarts, a documentary series that featured new talent in photography, film and the visual arts with one of the first TV appearances from photographer Rankin and film director by Nick Love. We built a massive set in an old sugar house in Glasgow and created the typography out of fluorescent tubes. All animation was completed in camera.
Space — Title sequence
ISODESIGN | Space – BBC Two | TV Titles | Titles from one of our earliest BBC projects, Space was a 3-part documentary series exploring high end architecture in domestic projects. The titles follow a flowing mesh of fibre optic cables as they snake through a perspex acrylic model of an idealised living space, revealing the series title at the end. Shot on 16 mm film, the model was designed and made by our friends at NORD Architecture.
ISODESIGN | Velvet Soup was a Scottish comedy sketch show, starring Gavin Mitchell (Still Game), Steven McNicoll, Julie Duncanson and Mark McDonnell. Each of the performers had their alter ego modelled as 3D masks and, believe it or not, these giant heads still lurk around our offices.
ISODESIGN | T in the Park – BBC | TV Titles | Title sequence for the BBC's coverage of Scotland's infamous annual music festival, T in the Park. Shot at The Barrowlands with Biffy Clyro & directed by Mike Prince. We also created the content graphics and brand design.
