Ten Pin Linky: Writing
Is it just me or is writing one of the hardest things to teach? There is so much that goes into it and the Common Core Standards really revamped writing. Just Reed's Ten Pin Linky is perfect for finding some new to me ideas! Source: What the Teacher Wants If you haven't read The Squiggle yet, it's a must read for next year! Students turn the squiggle into a picture and then write a story about it. There are a lot of squiggle options to choose from. How cute, right?? I've used this idea the…

Ideas for using ‘Flotsam’ by David Wiesner: KS2
We are delighted to host a guest post from @teacherglitter, whose Year 5 pupils have been hugely inspired by a creative literacy sequence using the wordless picture book 'Flotsam'. I have been aware of the wonderful wordless picture book Flotsam, by David Wiesner, for several years now but for some reason or other, I h

A Peak Into My Writer's Notebook
Considering that you're reading my blog, you can safely assume that I enjoy writing. You can ALWAYS find me with a notebook in hand to make lists, jot notes, or to doodle with free time. I have even started carrying a "Life" notebook and a "School" notebook. *cough nerd cough* As a junior in college, I was required to keep a Writer's Notebook. This was my first introduction to keeping a composition notebook as a writing journal. Throughout my junior year, we participated in different writing…

Scrivere TESTI
Come scrivere un testo? Beh, fino a qualche anno fa avevo poche idee e ben confuse a riguardo, direi.

My 5 Favorite Writing Mini Lessons for Secondary Classrooms — TeachWriting.org
It may come as a surprise to you that my favorite mini lessons are nothing fancy. Rather, they are lessons I tend to come back to again and again throughout the year because students desperately need them. They are lessons that focus less on content and more on behavior and the structure of writing workshop. Writing and reading workshop started in the elementary classroom and many secondary teachers are realizing the benefits to this style of teaching reading and writing.
