In the late 1880s, the body of a 16-year-old girl was pulled from the Seine. She was apparently a suicide, as her body showed no marks of violence, but her beauty and her enigmatic smile led a Paris pathologist to order a plaster death mask of her face. In 1958 the anonymous girl’s features were used to model the first-aid mannequin Rescue Annie. Though the girl’s identity remains a mystery, her face, it’s said, has become “the most kissed face of all time.”
Ralph Smith, lost in the flood and buried in an unknown plot.: The Johnstown Flood occurred on May 31, 1889. It was the result of the catastrophic failure of the South Fork Dam situated on the Little Conemaugh River 14 miles upstream of the town of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, USA, made worse by several days of extremely heavy rainfall. The dam's failure unleashed a torrent of 20 million tons of water from the reservoir known as Lake Conemaugh. The flood killed 2,209 people.
Nineteenth century graveyards sometimes included carved chairs for the comfort of visitors. In this function, the object was known as a mourning chair, and cemeteries have since provided, benches for similar purposes, most often movable units of the type used in parks, but also specimens in the tradition of the carved chairs.
What Is the Difference Between Headstones & Gravestones? Headstones and tombstones are markers used to identify burial places. Originally, tombstones were part of the burial receptacle; headstones marked the head of the grave; footstones marked the foot of the grave; and gravestones were a stone slab laid over the grave.
In 1705,Margorie McCall got died & was buried after a LONG wake. That night, grave robbers exhumed her. They attempted to cut her finger off to remove a ring but while cutting into her finger, Marge came to & they bounced. She got out of the coffin & walked home. She knocked on the door just as her family gathered at her home. Deep in grief, her hubby said “if your mother were still alive, I’d swear that was her knock.” He opened the door & she was there, very much alive. He fainted dead away.
Although she looks very much alive, she is not. This photo was taken of a young woman (possibly a teenager) not long after her death. If the photographer got there just before, or right after the death, it was easier to pose someone. Such a remarkable photo of a beautiful young lady who died in her prime.
