Notebook Set-Ups 2015-2016
This year I set up my notebooks pretty similar to last year's with some minor changes. For the covers, students used cardstock and a pre-made class label. They had to put 5 numbers that represented them. After they were finished, I covered them with some clear plastic covers I found at Five Below. It was kind of like laminating/contact paper in one, but much easier to work with and thicker. I had bought it hoping to make a cabinet dry erase when I discovered they were actually clear. That…

Visualizing Domain & Range From a Graph | MathyCathy's Blog – Mrs. Cathy Yenca
I learned a nifty domain and range trick from an online workshop about using stickie notes to help “frame” the graph of a function. The idea is to use 4 notes so that all you see is the graph, which can make identifying the domain and range a little easier

Fill-in notes to introduce students to the basic vocabulary associated with plotting points and graphing on the coordinate plane.
Linear Functions
We jumped into linear functions this week. Here are some of the things we did (and by some I mean pretty much my entire week of lessons). What does it mean to be linear? I really wanted to emphasize the various representations of linearity, so that students could see how they all work together. So I started with this foldable to define linear. I gave them the algebraic and graphic definitions, but we used those to come up with what it means to be linear in a table. I did this by giving them…

Math Equals Love | Math Teaching Blog by Sarah Carter
Before Christmas, we finished one of my favorite units of the year in Algebra 1 - Relations and Functions. With regards to pacing, we are WAY behind where I would like to be, but there's not much I can do about that. Last year, my pacing was off in the other direction. We spent a full two months of the school year on data and probability because we got through the rest of the standards too quickly. I do know that this year's students have a much better handle on solving equations and…
