Both Greek and Egyptian records spoke of an alien people who were thought to be closely connected with the import of copper. Egyptian records had referred to them as the “Keftiu” or” Keftians”, said to be “red-skinned”, from the red ochre they used, and came from the “Isles of the Sea”.
