Terpsikhore was so named because she delights her disciples with dance. Her name means ‘delighting in dance’ and is derived from the Greek words terpsis [”to delight"] and khoros [“dance”]. In the classical era, she was named Muse of choral song and dance, & according to legend, she is mother of the sirens by Achelous who was one of the river gods
