Bakutu Women with Konga - leg jewellery. Open cuff worn over the tibia and lined with ankle-padding. (Photo by Lamote from 'Office de l 'information du Congo Belge', 1958. Province: Equateur region: Tshuapa, Zone: Boende).         In the literature the 'Konga' is clearly identified as a characteristic shaped leg-decoration which had a monetary function .
