Shape- the use of regular squares and rectangles overlapping one another in a conformed manner creates an image of a bustling NYC street. The bustling effect comes from the intense overlapping of the shapes- it also adds the effect that the buildings are being built/put together. The darker shapes give the piece depth and from a distance, dimension.
Queen Anne's Lace Acorn
::: I made a bunch of these pendants a while back. Photographing them is difficult! It's a real acorn cap, with a bit of dried Queen Anne's lace set into clear resin. I cast those bits in an ice cube tray meant to make ice cubes that would fit through the neck of a commercial drink bottle. I drilled a hole through the top of the acorn cap, made a wire loop to hang it from a cord. The top of the resin bit is backed with purple enamel and then glued into the cap.
