Analemma shows the sun's path over a year
EarthSky community member Rick Williams in California created a cool analemma - showing the path of the sun at noon - on the wall of his house. An analemma is a figure-eight pattern, showing the position of the sun at a particular time of day over the course of a year. In Rick's image, you see the reflected light of the sun on Sunday, as it reaches its northernmost point in Earth's sky. ☀️ Thank you, Rick!

Heliochronometer at Belvoir Castle © J.Hannan-Briggs
Heliochronometer at Belvoir Castle-Made by Gunning Sundials. A Heliochronometer is the acme of sundials. It is only the heliochronometer that gives a direct and accurate reading of Standard Time throughout the sunlit year. To a greater or lesser extent, all other sundials fall short of this capability. Most will only reflect accurate time on four days of the year. By comparison, the Heliochronometer is ‘right’ every day and stands a fair chance of being more accurate than your watch!
