Any idea what kind of tree/plants?

We took a drive into historic Niagara-on-the-Lake and noticed some unusual street plantings. They are magnificent and although I've seen a trumpet vine, this one is a tree! A passer-by referred to this as plumeria but that didn't seem quite right? I like the way they've used unusual plants as street decor, like this flowering maple (abutilon?). But the one that has us stumped is this tree which was laden with grape-sized fruit. Any ideas?
