1929 Living Room - Karpen Furniture
Karpen Furniture had some nice rooms illustrated in magazines like House Beautiful and American Home during the 1920s. The company tended to specialize in traditional furnishings which the majority of home owners wanted. This room leans toward the 18th C. Colonial style. (I'm building a collection of 20th C. American residential images and articles at Antique Home & Style.)
1921 Armstrong Kitchen - Sanitary Style
One hallmark of the 'teens and early 20s was the sanitary style in kitchens. Easy maintenance with particular attention to cleanliness as well as improved efficiency were the order of the day. This Armstrong kitchen ad was offered in conjunction with a publication by their interior advisor, Frank Alvah Parsons (after whom Parsons School of Design is named).
1928 Kitchen in American Home
Here's my new favorite kitchen. This transitional kitchen with its small wood stove and icebox are classic. The floor appears to be linoleum. The pale blue, green, and buff scheme are very soothing. Note the painted designs on the cabinets ... very popular at the time. See Antique Home & Style for this and other kitchen color schemes.
1920s Kitchen Gallery - Kitchen flooring, cabinetry, nooks, and plumbing - Vintage Kitchen Design Inspiration
Kitchens during the 1920s ranged from the dainty to the brzenly colorful. It's a decade of gorgeous illustration and manufacturing innovation.
