This photo demonstrates what I had been hoping: Baby powder works really well to create the smoke/fog effect, if you're willing to jump around like a crazy person long enough, flailing the bottle of powder about. It is amazing how an old space can look so new and different every time you visit it if you have a different story in mind to tell.
