Historic Photographs Of "White" Slaves
In 1863 and 1864, eight former slaves toured the northern states to raise money for impoverished African-American schools in New Orleans; four children with mixed-race ancestry and pale complexions were deliberately included to evoke sympathy from white northerners. Photographs of Charles Taylor, Rebecca Huger, Rosina Downs, and Augusta Broujey were mass-produced and sold as part of the campaign.

As it is with all bullies and their victims, the strong bear the real shame for preying on the weak. The Jews of Europe bore such petty torments with exceptional dignity and fortitude. Charles Joseph Coward was a British solider who, as a POW, broke into Auschwitz, saved many Jews from death, sabatoged the Germans during work details, smuggled intelligence about the conditions at the concetration and pow camps. He, along with other British officers, used their Red Cross packages to smuggle food to the inmates of Auschwitz. In 1963 he was named as one fo the "Rightous amoung Nations." (Coward is pictured on the upper bunk.)
