Once a thriving settlement just fifty years ago, villagers were forced to desert the island as the little town struggles with urbanisation, inaccessibility and depletion of resources. They soon discovered that Houtou Wan could no longer meet the needs of the increasing number of fishing boats, therefore ditching the village was the best move.
