Eurydice was a Greek Oak Nymph, one of the daughters of Apollo. She was the wife of Orpheus, who tried to bring her back from the dead with his enchanting music. "For Orpheus' lute was strung with poets' sinews,/ Whose golden touch could soften steel and stones,/ Make tigers tame, and huge leviathans/ Forsake unsounded deeps to dance on sands." When Orpheus later was killed by the Maenads at the orders of Dionysus, his soul ended up in the Underworld where he was reunited with Eurydice.
