Downtown San Antonio
Ca. 1944 - Houston St. looking west toward intersection of N. Presa St. Photo shows Todd's Men's Wear (far left) next to Jo-Ed Shops, southeast corner of E. Houston and Losoya streets on left. Pincus Co. building (southwest corner of E. Houston and Losoya; the Maverick building in center. (from UTSA Special Collections - Zintgraff).
1922 - Wonderful photo of Alamo St. looking north. On the left is the Grand Opera House. In the back, at the right, is the Federal Building and post office and Maverick Bank opposite side. Side note on Grand Old Opera House (now Museum of Wax); it opened in 1886 and was hailed as the best of its kind in the South. It costs $125,000 (over 3 million in today's dollars) to build, seated 1,800 and was torn down in 1948. Which one would you rather have, the Museum of Wax or the Grand Opera House?
