Sri Guru Granth Sahib (Gurmukhi: ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ) is the religious text of Sikhism. It is a voluminous text of 1430 Angs or pages, compiled and composed during the period of Sikh gurus, from 1469 to 1708. It is a collection of hymns (shabda) or baani describing the qualities of God and why one should meditate on God's name. Guru Gobind Singh (1666–1708), the tenth guru, affirmed it as his successor, elevating it to the living Guru.

First building of Sri Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara was completed in Nov 1936 with a ten by ten foot stone gurudwara with a three foot verandah facing the lake. Sri Guru Granth Sahib, which had been presented by Bhai Vir Singh, was formally installed inside during the first week of September, 1937 making Hemkund Sahib the highest Gurudwara in the world.
