Gel Stained Kitchen Cabinets

Used General Finishes brown mahogany gel stain. I ended up using three coats to achieve the dark brown/espresso look. I originally wanted to go with a lighter tone, but was afraid it would have been too difficult to replicate and wanted my cabinets to look nice. The pictures don't do the finish justice.

Our 'temporary' under cabinet lighting. They are simple wireless LEDs run by batteries. When we get back from Germany we will hard wire some better ones in when we do our backsplash. All six lights cost $15 (on sale) at Lowe's.
After the gel stain was applied and polyurethaned. The flash of the camera makes the cabinets look like they're almost black, but in real life they're between a chocolate brown and espresso color. You will also notice that we added hardware to the cabinets.

Cabinets are finally done minus aligning the doors above the fridge. :)

More bottom cabinet shots. You might notice that our dish washer looks like a stainless steel model in this picture and black in an earlier picture. We used a product that is contact paper put really does give the look of brushed stainless steel. We will eventually be replacing the dishwasher and stove with stainless to match the refrigerator, but probably not until we return from a work-related year long trip to Germany.
