'Escargot' takes its name from the snail-like curl pattern at the base of the leaf. The foliage is striking enough to stand on its own but it's a good mixer, too. Use it with other foliage plants and brightly colored blooms.

"Simply irresistible" is the best way to describe Ophiopogon 'Gyoku Ryu', a dwarf mondo grass cultivar with thick, dark green, grass-like foliage that eventually makes a tight mat in even the worst garden conditions. If you have mild enough conditions to grow these tender cane type begonias outdoors year round, how could you resist them, even if they never bloomed? But they do, they do. I wouldn't care if they never bloomed, and now use them a lot in more protected shade gardens that don't get wind nor bake in the sun. Little Brother Montgomery anyone? This silver-splashed, evergreen beauty brightens any shady niche. Large glossy heart-shaped foliage conceals unusual purple flowers tucked around the base of the plant in early spring. A showy, vigorous groundcover for shade. Asarum Spendens will spread with underground rhizomes. Thick leathery foliage will mound to a more lush appearance if planted near sidewalks or a barrier to restrict its spread.
